Reflection week 15! The last entry!!! ='(

Assalamualaikum and hi to all!!! How are you? Well, this entry will be the last entry from me. So, I shall wrap up my journey in PBEY3102, by answering the questions that follow:

1. What do you like about blogging?

Blogging allows me to share my feelings, my thoughts, and my opinions to the readers as well as to the rest of the world.

2. What you do not like about blogging?

There’s nothing that I do not like about blogging. I like everything about blogging. In fact, I want to keep blogging as a channel to express myself!

3. What have you gained from blogging eg. Language skills, improved fluency, critical thinking, improved thought processes, technology skills etc.

I have gained confidence, improved my technology skills, and language proficiency.

4. How?

First and foremost, through blogging, I have gained confidence in expressing myself. People can see the introvert like me speak up to the “virtual” audience. Other than that, blogging have improved my technology skills (e.g. how to embed photos, tools, videos and applications to enhance my blog); language proficiency (in English specifically) and critical and creative thinking (in giving opinions and thoughts about an issue).

5. What do you like about this course?

I like about the skills that I managed to learn and gain throughout the 14 weeks. Truly valuable!

6. What you do not like about this course?

Nothing.

7. What have you learnt from this course?

I have learnt how to use the technology (specifically) to develop the resources and materials for the ESL classrooms.

8. What have you learnt from this course that you did not expect to?

I haven’t expected that technology will be emphasized a lot in doing the teaching materials. Nevertheless it was such a wonderful and beneficial experience for me. I will surely utilize the skills and knowledge that I have gained in my future teaching!

9. What have u expected but do not learn from this course?

Nothing.

10. If you can change anything about this course, state what is and elaborate?

So far, the course is good and beneficial. There’s nothing that I would like to change (^_^).

11. On a scale of 1 – 10, please rate your computing and technological skills for both before and after undergoing the course.

Before – 4

After - 8

Thus, that's the last entry form me for this course. With that, i end officially this blog! Till then, good bye and good luck! All the best! Live life to the max! God blessed!!!

Video submission...Good job guys!

Assalamualaikum and hi to all! (^_^) What a wonderful experience I have today in the class! Given the opportunity to watch our friends' videos was really great! What I can say, most of us have given the effort and hard work to produce such great videos! BRAVO!

As for me and my partner Nick a.k.a Nicholas, we have decided to explore the excitement of "waiting for the moment" of Hari Raya for our video. Using the pictures related to the special day, coupled with a few Raya song clips, it is hoped that, people who watched the video can be aroused by the spirit of Aidilfitri. Here is the video for you to watch. Hope you will enjoy watching. Till then, bye and feel free to comment!

Video Editing!

Assalamualaikum and hi to all!!! (^_^) I am back! In the recent Resources class, I've been exposed to video editing. We have been presented with a few videos; some were downloaded from the You Tube, some were meant for commercials and some were done by the previous cohort. What I can say, all of the videos were simply MARVELLOUS! Great songs, nice still pictures and recorded videos have been chosen hence allowing us, the audience to comprehend the message that each of the video intended to convey. Good work! Message delivered! Mission accomplished!

Now, it is the time for me and the rest to hit big the screen with our videos. Hopefully we can produce a video that can leave a memorable impact to the audience. That's all for today. Till then, feel free to add comments!!! (^_^)

Ebook!

Assalamualaikum and hi to all!!! I am back! Thank you to the loyal readers who are willing to read my blog (pretending to wave to the invisible audience, hehehe). Thank you very much for your support! Basically, the post today will be about ebook. Well, what is an ebook actually?

So, to get more idea about ebook, perhaps this definition from Wikipedia will lend a hand "An e-book (short for electronic book, also written eBook or ebook) is an e-text that forms the digital media equivalent of a conventional printed book, often protected with a digital rights management system. E-books are usually read on personal computers or smart phones, or on dedicated hardware devices known as e-book readers or e-book devices."

Doesn’t it sound interesting to teach the children story, new language input or lesson through the use of technology? With all the captivating animations, vivid graphics, breath-taking illustrations I am sure these can magnetize pupils’ attention and interest to engage in the learning process till the end.

Hence, I hope I can produce a good and beneficial educational ebook for the children. So, from now on, I should start to work on my ideas and transform them into the tangible ebook for the audience viewing. Don’t procrastinate. Start working! (hehehehe, reminders for myself)

Well, that’s all for now. Till then, feel free to comment! (^_^)

Reflection week 4: Server Down!

Assalamualaikum and hi to all! I bet you’ve got the idea on what I am going to write today. Yes! Server down… What an unfortunate day for me and the rest for not being able to surf the net (isk…isk…). Nevertheless, we managed to complete 3 topics for the upcoming weeks! (Yay!) What an achievement! So, let me briefly talked about the subtopics namely the significance of the way we treat mistakes, reusing materials and listen and find.

Basically, the first subtopic focuses on the appropriate ways teachers should employ to treat children’s mistakes. I learn that, although we think it is a necessary to correct the children’s mistakes to avoid the “fossilization” - persistent lack of change in interlanguage patterns, even after extended exposure to or instruction in the target language (Spada, 2006) (as I used to pronounce the word “development” as “dae-ve-lep-men” before, but thank goodness, I pronounce it CORRECTLY now. Hehehe) but somehow we should not overdo it as that would result in constraint in fluency. Children will avoid to use the language if the teacher continuously correct him or her even from the start he or she opens her mouth to say something. So, the principle here, DO correct the errors when necessary but DO NOT OVERDO.

The second subtopic reveals how some teaching aids can be used over and over again for other activities to teach other language skills. I am amazed how from a single grid, the teacher can teach so many things. Save time, save cost, save energy. The keyword is simple, REUSE! (^_^)

The last subtopic exposes a stimulating activity called “The washing line game” where the children have to be very attentive, and listen to what the teacher says very carefully and quickly find the objects the teacher asks for and hang them on the line (or rope). I find this game very beneficial to polish children’s listening skill before they move on to speaking. This activity relates closely to Total Physical Response (TPR) by J. Asher which believes in how children acquire their first language. Yup! They do a lot of listening and respond to the language (spoken by the interlocutors) through physical actions. What an interesting game! Perhaps I may utilize it in my future classroom! (Who knows??? =P)

Well, that’s about it. Will upload the power points soon. Till then, feel free to comment!!! (^_^)

Reflection 3: Phew… (~_~)

Assalamualaikum and hi to all! (^_^) Sigh… given quite a lot of work to be completed in two weeks time; coupled with summary of each topic for the particular year of primary school text book (due this Monday) and other mountainous tasks and assignments (some due on the same day) , have enough to make me live in sorrow... The burdens seem endless, leading me to ask GOD for patience to assist me survive under all these...

“Please help me…”

Nevertheless, behind all these I realize something. To be a great teacher, we should be able to endure excessive workloads and unreasonable demands as well as expectation from the administrators and parents. In today’s challenging world, nothing is simple. To gain something we should first confront with the unexpected circumstances, and of course heavy burdens. Ability to get through well with those will then make us realize how we can actually go really far from our restricted limit just to achieve the goal that we have set. Hence, now, I learn that I should be more optimistic; thus, perceive the burdens as one of the means to challenge myself and discover my hidden potential in order to accomplish the pre-determined mission.

Thus, to conclude my post today, I would like to share this quote from Peter S. Beagle with all of you out there:-

“Great heroes need great sorrows and burdens, or half their greatness goes unnoticed.

~Peter S. Beagle~

Remember, we are the “heroes” and “heroines” of tomorrow. I hope, the quote can make your day and relieve the current burdens that you are suffering now. Live life to the maximum!

That’s all for now. Will write again soon. Till then, feel free to add comments. (^_^)

"Intensive face exercise"!

Assalamualaikum and Hello to all!!! (^_^) Just would like to share this video which I "coincidently" found in the You Tube. There's only one word to describe. LOL!!! (Well, for those who are not familiar with this acronym, it actually stands for "laugh-out-loud"). Don't believe me? Watch!

A GREAT & CHEAP way for facial exercise. Don't you think so? =P
By the way, sorry for the poor quality. I hope you've enjoyed (very much) watching the video. Well, that's all for now. Will write again soon. Till then, feel free to add comments!!! (^_^)

Funny WARNING signs!

Have you ever wondered what will happen to your children (or younger brothers or sisters - for those who have not married yet) when they are left alone without adults' supervision? Hahahaha! Careful, you might not want this from happening! =P

Okay, perhaps the above sign will provoke some sort of "fear" among parents. =P

How about this one?

Hehehehe. Now, imagine you are in this critical situation. FIRE! FIRE! Of course you should not use elevator to get out from the building. So, what do you think you should use?
(I know you are thinking of stairs... okay, let see whether your guess is correct or not)

Hahahaha! Gotcha! Well, that's all for my post today. Will write again soon! Till then, feel free to comment! (^_^)

My second reflection of the day….

Hi!!! I am back!

Well, there’s nothing much to share with you guys except for several tasks, books and assignments given today. Nevertheless, I would like to share some of my great experiences in the quest of exploring the magnificent world of BLOGSPOT!
Even though I am new in blogging world, (yes, it's true, in fact I just knew about "blog" a year ago, pity me (T_T) ) but that does not stop my sense of wonder and curiosity from continuously dragging and leading me to discover the web tools and applications that can enhance and beautify my blog layout and background. Thank you to my friends who have willingly assisted me to learn this meaningful knowledge. It was such a beneficial experience and OF COURSE I love and enjoy doing the downloading background for blogspot in some cool and useful websites much! Clicking here, clicking there… SO MUCH FUN!
Here, I perceive myself as an active learner, engage in constructing my own knowledge about technology and improve the necessary skills in ICT. Hence, through this kind of learning I realize that by being an independent learner I have become more responsible on my own learning and very much aware and sensitive on what I would like to achieve in life.
Well, that's all for now. I will write again soon. Wait for my next post! Till then, bye! (^_^)

In the process of being a techno savvy, will PBEY3102 help me?

Hi......

Honestly speaking, i am not really good when it comes to technology. Should i say i am a "dummy" (in technology)? Not totally, because accidentally or incidentally i use technology in my daily life. Maybe without I'm realizing it. Well, mostly for my assignments, quizzes, and exams, internet is my loyal buddy. Seeking resources just a click away.
Talking about this brand new course, choosing, using and developing resources for the use in the ESL classroom, I am expecting to learn something that can enhance my ICT and pedagogical skills to assist in my future teaching and learning. I believe, teacher must be equipped with immense knowledge and skills to tackle children in this 21st century. So as the educator, this is a crucial point to be pondered upon.
Well, that's about it for now. Will write again soon. Till then.
